What is it all about?

Chirstianity is first and foremost about a relationship rather than rules, regulations, and boring church services.

It’s about having a real, living, and meaningful relationship with a God who made us. Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment is to love God. But how do we do this?

The Bible tells us that we were made by God for a relationship with Him. It’s as if there is a God-shaped hole inside us and no matter what we do to fill this hole nothing really fills the gap.

We sometimes try to fill this gap with, making money, drugs, alcohol, sex, music, sport, or even our work. Nothing really fills that void.

The Bible tells us that the reason for this gap is that we have turned our backs on God (Genesis 1 v 26-27, Isaiah 53 v 6) The Bible calls this, sin. Only God can give us real satisfaction and joy, only a God can fill a God-shaped hole. (John 10 v 10)

We also have another problem. Because we are born with this gap and sin in our lives there is a great seperation between God and us, we can not get to God no matter how hard we try, the gap was too great. So God came to us. But how did He do this?

Well, this is the Good News the church talks about. God sent His son, Jesus, to come and be born as a tiny wee baby. Then he gew up as a toddler, boy, teenager, and young man. He taught many things about God and then He did something very remarkable.

He died on a cross of wood, just for you… But He didn’t stay dead, God raised Him up to life again…

Our sins condemned us to death and hell, but now there was a way to get to God, we don’t have to be lost. Jesus’ death on the cross was a bridge to God. (Acts 2 v 22-24, Colossians 2 v 13-15)

Now if you ask God to forgive your wrongs, your sins and accept that Jesus died on the cross for you, that He took your place, and ask Him to take control of your life… Then something amazing happens, you become a Christian, the Bible calls this, being born again. You get a second chance at life, with God.

Through Jesus, God can come into our lives and fill the God-shaped hole and we can have a powerful, real and satisfying relationship with God, our heavenly dad.

But why would God do all of this?

Well here is the Gospel (The Good News) in a nutshell.

Had you been the only person on the face of the earth, Jesus would still have come down from heaven to earth and died on a cross just for you, and He would have done it gladly. Why? Because the Bible tells us that you are deeply loved and valued by God.

In fact, He calls you His treasured possession. (Deut 14 v 2)

How do I become a Christian?

If you realise you’re a sinner and you want to become a Christian then why not pray this prayer out loud.

“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that my life is not right with you and that my best efforts have fallen short. I am truly sorry for all of the things I have done wrong, my sins. I want to follow you Lord Jesus and I want you to come into my life and my heart. I want to be changed and know your love and forgiveness in my life. Thank you that You loved me enough to come to earth to rescue me and to give me new life.” Amen.
